What do students feel about the cell phone policies at Martin?
•"[It’s] unfair that if they see your cell phone out, and its off they are allowed to take it." – Tiara (7th Grade)
•"I hate it, the way teachers and other adults can have phones at school but we can’t." - Christopher (7th grade)
Why do you think teachers won’t let us use phones at MMS?
• "Teachers won’t let students use phones at school because they think that students can cause riots and things that can be violent for other students." – Eunique (7th grade)
•"Cause they don’t want kids on their cell phones because they won't pay attention." – Javonte (7th grade)
Do you think administrators would at least consider having a day each month when students can have cell phones at school?
•"I think it should happen or at least attempt to be able to text in class but if we don’t … pay attention the phones get taken and reported to our parents." - Keyanndra (7th grade)
A lot of the sixth graders ask the question “Why can’t we play sports?” Right now, I want to answer that question.
The first reason why sixth graders can't play sports is because of all of the new things that will take place in the 6th grade year. It is not physically possible to do new homework that is very hard and a new adjustment, learn a schedule, do any sports, music, etc outside of school, and master a sports team. It’s way too much to handle for your first year and you need to focus on your grades.
The second reason why sixth graders can’t play sports is because they are simply too small. Some may be big but almost 75% percent of the grade is too small. By seventh grade hopefully they will be bigger.
And lastly is aggressiveness. A lot of the 7th and 8th graders are going to be rough and aggressive when they play sports. 6th graders may not be able to take that yet. They may need to get more aggressive. This is more likely to happen in 7th and/or in 8th grade.
This also has a very positive outlook on it though. This gives you a chance to practice more, and more every day! This will make the tryouts easier!
Do you think the dress code will help the school?
Ms. Moore (a seventh grade counselor) said “Yes, because people should dress appropriately and so they can focus on there academics.”
Do you like the dress code?
Eunique (a seventh grader) says “The dress code should be different for each grade.”
What do you think of the dress code?
Mrs. Moore (seventh grade counselor) " It'sfair for all the students at MMS."

Martin Middle School has a variety of sports, including basketball, football, track, and more. But the people Martin gathers for the teams are all people who like ground sports and working hard. If we want to get more people involved in sports they should have different sports like swimming, tennis, and diving.
Lots of people like swimming and diving, because it is refreshing and a workout. Tennis is a sport that lots of people would sign up for because it’s a quiet sport that you only need two people to play. In the winter we could go ice staking in the pool! Please consider supporting these sports because it would get a lot more people into athletics!
