Martin Musical 2010

Have you ever heard of the musical at Martin Middle School? It is “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”! We went around the school and interview some of the cast members. They have been rehearsing for a couple of weeks now, and they are really excited to present the play on February 25th and 26th.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is about a boy, Charlie Bucket, who lives in a poor family with his four grandparents and both of his parents. When the contest for a golden ticket to win a tour around Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory begins, it becomes his which to win one of the five golden tickets. Right when Charlie loses hope he wins the last golden ticket. Charlie experiences the magic of the factory and the unexpected craziness all around.

The first person we interview was Justice:

Q: Which character do you play? A: I play an oompa-loompa, kid, and a cook.

Q: Why were you interested in trying out for the play? A: It is a good experience, it sounded fun, and I like to sing.

Q: What is your favorite part about the play? A: My favorite part is the costumes.

Q: Did it take a long time to learn your lines? A: Yes because I have to learn a lot of songs for the play.

Q: Is it worth all the hard work? A: Sometimes it is sometimes it is not.

Next we interview Jacob:

Q: Which character do you play? A: I play Grandpa Joe.

Q: Why were you interested in trying out? A: I am involved in the arts a lot.

Q: What is you favorite part about the musical? A: Acting being on stage and singing are some of the things that I like.

Q: Is it hard to learn your lines? A; No if you sit down and focus on it is easy.

Q: Which part did you want to play? A: Willy Wonka but this part is just as good.

Lastly we interviewed Matthew:

Q: What character do you play? A: I play Willy Wonka.

Q: What is your favorite part about the play? A: Seeing everyone in costume and how much fun they have.

Q: Why were you interested in joining? A: I was in Beauty and the Beast last year and I love the art and it fascinates me.

Q: Is it hard to learn your lines? A: Yes, because I have a bigger part than last year.

Q: Is there a lot of pressure? A: I am part of the cast and we all share the responsibilities and everyone is important to the play.

Q: What is your favorite seen? A: The candy boat scene because of the creepy laugh that I have to do.

Q: What is your favorite character excluding yourself? A: Veruca Salt. Sarah plays it really well.

Come see Martin’s cast do great in the Martin Middle School 2010 musical “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”. You will enjoy the singing, dancing, and exiting twists. So don’t forget to come!!!!

Peer Helpers Sell Flowers for Haiti

Attention 8th Graders!!!

MMS Peer Helpers are conducting a carnation sale to raise funds for Haiti . This event involves 8th graders only and will be held during 6th period lunch. Peer helpers will be set up outside the lunchroom, on Monday the 8th, Tuesday the 9th, and Wednesday the 10th of February for orders. They will be selling carnations by preorder for one dollar each to support Haitian relief efforts.

Carnations will be delivered to the recipient of the student's (or teacher's) choice on Friday Feb. 12 eighth period.
